In the NC News...

Starting January 1st 2026:  North Carolina will allow an attested written will to be stored as an electronic record and later offered for probate as a certified paper copy. This means that you should look into saving a digital back up copy of your attested written will with your Estate Planning Professional so that it does not get lost and it can be found. This applies to attested written wills, not handwritten holographic wills. Once an attested written will is electronically stored under this new process, physical destruction of the original may no longer revoke it. For more information please see your Estate Planning Professional.

What is Predictive Surveillance?

China's AI rush is already very well known, and so is their mission to fulfill the Chinese "ethnic unity" amongst their various populations. The Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion legislation was approved by China's National People's Congress in Beijing in March, with the stated aim of creating a "shared" national identity among the country's officially recognized 56 ethnic groups. Understanding that the advances in their surveillance capabilities, mixed with their national agenda brings us to the most incredible futuristic topic by far which is  predictive surveillance.

Essentially, it's predicting someone's future behavior based on their past history... of recorded behavior. Researchers at Vanderbilt University have recently found that the Chinese firm Geedge Networks is analysing vast amounts of data on individuals' daily habits, relationships, and browsing histories to predict who might say or do something critical of the government.

According to South China Morning Post, a company at the expo, Lianxin Technology, said its AI-enabled cameras and psychological analysis use facial features to generate personality profiles. The company claims that if a person looks at the camera for 8 to 12 seconds, the system will generate a personality profile that includes emotional stability, health vulnerability, core motivations and the risk of committing a crime.

Don't want to be an AI Guinea Pig?

If you are a social media user with accounts at Meta (for example) chances are they have enlisted your account for use of your data habits in their AI experiments and "learning models".  There are settings within Meta whereby you can choose to opt your information out of this "leaning" pool.  However with the vast popular rise of AI everywhere... these learning tools aren't just with mega corporations anymore.

There is a push to help protect users from this use of your data however. The Human Consent Registry is a relatively new "setting the record" attempt to how your NAME, IMAGE and LIKENESS can be used by companies for monetization.  This means, that duplicating your image using AI is either consented or not consented by you. This is important for perhaps even reasons we don't understand today, might be worth a look.
