Natalia and I attended Creative Morning back in December and were introduced to an awesome and amazing Charlotte Jazz artist professional, Tim Scott Jr. Rounding out the year 2024 back on that Creative Morning stage, Tim Scott Jr. was reflecting on music, his career, his youth and his legacy. When he mentioned legacy, we knew we had to interview him! February marks the month for recognition of Black culture, identity and history. Tim’s music journey is a beautiful story that shows just this.
Born in Buffalo, New York, he moved to Charlotte in 2000. His roots are in the music of his church, as he grew up playing and listening to music played by all members of his family. Tim thought everyone grew up in such a musically vibrant environment so he initially pursued academics, particularly in science. It wasn’t until he moved to the South and attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, that his path in music truly unfolded. Living within the college walls of a most famous HBCU ( ranked #7 in the US) he was exposed to a level of music that brought him to a new sphere of conscience. He played alongside amazing other musicians his age, musicians of all backgrounds and had mentors and professors that shaped his life in its entirety.
Regarding his own legacy, Tim reflects that it begins with his wife and family of 4 kids. As a husband and father, he believes that his true legacy is built on how he livesat home and how he supports his family. He works on the road as a tour manager, event producer and musical director but his number one remains his family. As his home is now in Charlotte, he also wants to build the music scene up locally, and not just with his concerts but starting 2025 with Charlotte SHOUT.

Tim describes Charlotte SHOUT as having four pillars: Music, Art, Food and Ideas. He and his wife are organizing various events to celebrate Black American music during the festival. Come Celebrate Black History Month and a Digital Music Legacy in the making asThey have plans to perform R&B, Jazz and finish off Easter weekend with gospel music on Sunday.

Personal Story
From the entrepreneurial readings, to the slick LinkedIn messaging there is one thing that I've noticed, is that it's hard to get money from investors in Charlotte. That said, investors want to know who they are investing in...not just the "what".
In light of this, I've taken it upon myself to try something really new, really difficult and challenging. This isn't the start up which in and of itself is very challenging. Rather, this is taking on a sport challenge to drive the golf ball as far as I can... and register to compete ( goal: to win_) an Ultimate Longest Drive competition.
I played a little as a kid, I don't have the latest gear, or the best clubs. My shoes are even missing the inner soles.. but that is okay. I will plan to work with what I have, train and once I get some funding for the right gear- hopefully it will take me to the next level- at competition.
This is my goal in this golfing challenge, and this is my goal as founder of DEXIT.

I will post some training videos and hopefully you will see progress. I have also started a GoFundme as this is a challenge that will motivate me to honor those that support me. Any additional funds that are raised will go to local charities in Union and Mecklenburg Counties.
